Autobiography

I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. As a teenager, I moved to Santa Fe, NM to be closer to my mom. I fell in love with Santa Fe right away, and I’ve lived in New Mexico ever since.

After high school, I earned a BS degree from UNM in Education with a Minor in English. During my time at UNM, I worked as a nanny, a tutor, and as a bartender. I also learned a great deal about web design. I created a few HTML & CSS Script websites using Adobe Suite. Additionally, I student-taught and co-taught at a few elementary schools in Albuquerque: John Baker, Montezuma, & Desert Willow Family School.

Once I received my full-fledged NM teaching license, I moved back to Santa Fe to teach at Cesar Chavez Elementary School. Sadly, Cesar Chavez was unable to keep me as a teacher due to budgeting, so I decided to move on to middle school. I spent five years teaching English at Cesar Chavez’s feeder middle school, Ortiz. It was exciting to teach many of my students again as seventh graders. During my time at Ortiz, I earned an MA in Curriculum and Instruction with an Endorsement in TESOL from NM Highlands University.

In 2015, I decided another change was needed, and I joined the amazing team at Capital High School. Yes, I once again followed the population I started with years ago at Cesar Chavez. It’s been an amazing experience watching my students learn and grow from young children to teenagers.

I’ve had many roles at Capital HS including Computer Technology Department Head & Teacher, AVID Teacher & Site Coordinator, Summer School E2020 Lead, English/ESL Teacher, Freshmen Seminar Teacher, and most recently Assistant Principal. In 2020, I earned my Doctorate in Teacher Leadership in Digital Transformation from Capella University. All the while, I have maintained one foot in the service industry by working as an IT Manager at 315 Restaurant and Wine Bar. Though I have very much enjoyed my time teaching K-12, I am ready for the next chapter in my life, adult education.
